Aspects in Diablo 4 are passive bonuses that can be slotted into equipment to grant unique effects and boost a character’s power. The game features more than a hundred aspects, with some built for specific classes and others usable by every hero. Here is how they function and why they matter.
Diablo 4 guides
What is an aspect in Diablo 4?
Aspects are essentially Legendary modifiers you can add to non-Legendary gear. These effects can alter existing class skills or provide a potent usable power. Each enhancement belongs to one of several groups:
- Protection;
- Attack;
- Sources;
- Support;
- Mobility.
To acquire an aspect, you either reach a power level up to 25 or unlock it through the Codex of Power. The second path requires completing a dungeon. Hover over a dungeon on the map to see which Power Code it unlocks for you. Unlocked powerups appear under Collections in the Power Code tab, where all available aspects are listed for the player.
If you’re looking for a specific Legendary aspect, selecting it will place a marker on the world map. Follow the indicated route to the dungeon. Some dungeons require liberating a fortress before entry.
Typically, players clear the dungeon by defeating monsters, collecting items, opening the gate, and battling the boss. The reward often includes a Legendary Aspect, which then shows up in the Codex of Power.
Improvements can also be found in a special inventory section after you remove them from an item. Legendary gear typically carries an aspect by default, and you can also craft an aspect with the Occultist.
How do you get more aspects in Diablo 4?
There are two main ways to obtain boosts in the game:
- Complete a dungeon run, earning the aspect as a reward.
- Extract an aspect from a Legendary item, which destroys that item but adds the aspect to the character’s inventory for future use.
If a legendary item is no longer needed, it can be brought to the Occultist. The item is destroyed, and its aspect transfers to the current character, ready to be used on a stronger weapon or other gear later on.
The upgrades added to the Codex of Power can be used by any character, so it does not matter which class conquers the dungeon, since every hero gains access to the reward.
Where can you find the occultist in Diablo 4?
The Occultist is marked on the map with a symbol of three small circles. They can be found in every major city. In Kyovashad, the first major settlement, the Occultist sits on the left side of town. Interacting with the character opens two menus: an aspect menu on the left and the inventory on the right.
Beyond those options, this NPC allows adjusting gear attributes and, most importantly, the ability to extract and imprint power-ups.
How do you capture an aspect in equipment in Diablo 4?
Aspects require specific equipment slots—some fit only loose weapons, others suit jewelry. Each aspect is marked by a symbol showing the compatible item type.
Aspects from dungeons and the Codex of Power can be endlessly printed into various items. The main prerequisites are sufficient materials and gold to print.
Materials removed from gear can only be imprinted once, but duplicates can be kept in the inventory. A second imprint might offer a noticeable performance boost.
While the Codex of Power and dungeons provide many upgrades, some mods come only from gear. The item retaining the new aspect keeps its other properties. If that item was rare but not legendary, those traits remain intact.
Once a power-up is placed in an item, it cannot be removed. Plan ahead and decide how to spend it, or hold off for a better build later on.
- Select the item from the inventory into which you want to insert the aspect;
- Choose an aspect from the Power Code or inventory to print;
- Click the Capture Aspect button to create a new Legendary item.
Gold and Veiled Crystals are needed, which come from dismantling rare weapons, jewelry, and armor.
How to extract aspects from equipment in Diablo 4?
For example, if a level 30 Legendary sword no longer fits the build, its aspect can be extracted and applied to a new weapon, or kept in the inventory for future use.
- Open the Occultist menu on the left and switch to the second tab;
- Find the Legendary item in the inventory to retrieve the aspect from;
- Check the item you receive to ensure there are no mix-ups;
- Click the Extract Aspect button at the bottom of the screen.
The act of extracting a power-up from an item consumes the item itself, so plan ahead. Unlike imprinting, extracting an aspect only costs a set amount of gold.
