Atomic Heart: save locations, transfers, and practical tips

Atomic Heart is a first person shooter that has drawn comparisons to classic titles like Bioshock and earned a reputation for its distinct Russian setting. The game saves data in a limited number of slots, so this guide focuses on where those saves live and how to back them up. It also covers moving saves between Game Pass, VK Play, and Steam, so players can continue their adventures across platforms without losing progress.

Where are the Atomic Heart save files?

The location of saves depends on the game version installed. This section explains the paths for Game Pass, VK Play, and Steam, so players can locate or back up their progress with ease.

For Game Pass:

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%AtomicHeartSavedSaveGames
  • C:Users[username]AppDataLocalAtomicHeartSavedSaveGames

For VK Play:

  • C:Users[username]AppDataLocalAtomicHeartSavedSaveGames

For Steam:

  • [SteamFolder]userdata[userID]668580remote

If the Steam directory defaults to the system drive, the save folder may be found at:

  • C:Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata[userID]668580remote

Until the game finishes the intro and saves for the first time, the save folder might not appear. If it does not appear after proving you saved, the folder may be hidden. To reveal hidden files, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Start menu and select Utilities, then Windows, and click on Control Panel.
  2. Open Appearance and Personalization. In File Explorer Options, locate Show hidden files and folders and enable it.
  3. Enable Show hidden files, folders and drives by placing a dot in that option.
  4. Click OK to apply the changes.

Note that these steps are intended to reveal hidden saves and are not required for all players. After enabling visibility, the save folder should appear when the game has written data.

Transfer Atomic Heart saves from Game Pass to Steam

Transferring saves between Game Pass and Steam can be done manually. Copy files from the source save folder and paste them into the destination save folder. A key caveat is that both versions often require the prologue to be completed and the first save to be created before the target save directory becomes visible. If the destination folder is not showing, completing the initial walkthrough usually fixes the issue.
