Which teams could Barcelona meet in the 2022-2023 Europa League
UEFA runs the European competitions in a way that the third-placed team from Champions League group stages drops into the Europa League from February when the competition resumes for the knockout rounds.
Since the 2021-2022 season, a new rule requires a playoff for teams that drop from the Champions League to reach the round of 16, replacing the automatic placement used previously.
Thus Xavi’s Barcelona would face a second-placed team from the Europa League groups, provided they are not from Spain, as teams from the same country cannot be drawn against each other yet.
