“Ancient Colors” is a sequence of exciting world missions in Genshin Impact. It opens access to caves in the Beryl region of Fontaine, reveals numerous chests, and unlocks useful teleports. How to start the Ancient Colors quest chain in Genshin Impact
Teleport to the Hydro Archon statue in the Beryl region. In front of a small water body, several Hermits and a creature named Mamer appear. A dialogue choice invites a decision: pick a fight or ask them to calm down. It becomes clear soon after that their intent was simply to barter for a painting, avoiding conflict.
Atk 1: Seafoam and Carmine Brush – Illusion Paints
Follow the marker to the pond and dive into a cavern that opens into a spacious, multi‑gallery area. A small puzzle features a Miraculous Floating Orb. The water current keeps shifting: first it repels the orb, then it pulls it. The nearby xenochrome armored crab must be used. If the current pushes the ball away, do nothing. When it starts pulling, shield and block the power. Step aside as the current changes direction.
You will be rewarded with a great chest waiting in the cave. Pursue the regular chest deeper in the tunnel and activate the underground teleporter.
Beyond the teleporter, Prisms in Elinas I appear—odd crystals scattered across Fontaine. Find one active crystal and use a basic attack to destroy the target stones by directing energy through crystals or transferring energy to others.
In the same area, a precious chest awaits. To open it, a combat bout with monsters is required.
Go to Merusi village
Return to the teleporter and follow the marker. Along the way, collect resources and regular chests. When Kosynzyanu is encountered, speak with her and head to the second teleporter in the area. Mamer will be waiting there.
In Mamer’s house, a mechanical dog is introduced, and the task updates.

Go to the paint harvest
Deep in the cave, a time trial requires destroying four explosive barrels. An archer is a practical choice. The reward includes a standard chest rather than a rare prize.
Use Ore Prism Resonance
In the marked area, charge crystals to break stones marked on the map. If a gem isn’t active, recharge it with a neighboring crystal. After breaking all the bricks, hydro granules reveal a Hydro core. Use this on Hydro Crystals by the wrecked ship to uncover a rich chest.
Keep moving instead of leaving the adit. Climb the hill to grab hydroculus and two more rich chests. They become accessible after clearing all nearby enemies.
Free the fairy from its cage and carry it to the counter for a regular chest. After finishing, speak with Mamer and teleport to the “Very Warm Place.”
Adjust the position of the prism to resonate with the ore
Crystals reappear and can be moved again. Energy travels along a fixed path, so consider height and distance. Set the first crystal on a small stone and the second on a mound near the wall.
Return to Mamer’s house and confront the Hermits again who wanted to buy the painting. If they were blocked earlier, they will be hostile now and must be defeated. This completes the task, but unlocks the next quest and the achievement “Just a dog…” in the chapter Fontaine: Wonders of the World.
Act 2: It’s going to rain
After speaking with Mamer, a new task begins. Go to the village, climb the stairs, and speak with Serene to receive the second detail (the first comes from Mamer).
Press the V key to trigger a prompt: “Help the melusins deal with problems and explore the environment to collect strange details.” In the village, locate the girl near the water. She reveals a mysterious book hidden in a dungeon ditch.
Secrets of the “Book of Revelation”
Return to the first teleporter and inspect the pond. A hidden passage appears, leading to the mysterious book.
How to find the pages of a book
Pages are marked on the world map. In the northern map area, fight waves of enemies and protect the crystals; in the southern area, deal with a smaller group led by an elite foe. Place the pages back into the Book of Revelation to unlock another cave level.
Find the Canotile
The location holds a luxury box that requires passing four tests scattered around the map and delivering four fairies to the chest. For opening details, consult the themed guide. If the chest has already been unlocked, return to the quest by going to the tower, using teleports to reach the top floor, and approaching the table to trigger a cutscene. Use additional teleports and fight a group of elites. If the chest is not obtainable yet, you can try again later by returning to the book and selecting Start with Meditation.
Go to the specified location
Locate Mamer at home and head to the first teleport. A left passage leads to a regular chest and the marker. The large adit houses the last teleport in this cave. After activating it, prepare for a confrontation with the Hounds of the Rupture.
Crystals can boost the chances of obtaining more rich chests, with some crystals needing elevation to reach higher platforms.
After collecting all treasures, dive into the water.
Find the melusina that can’t get out
In the flooded cave section, algae trap a melusin. To free it, stand on the left and aim at two moving points. When they align, fire the xenochrome stingray. Then cut the dome’s bottom to escape.
Go to the specified location
Engage in a rapid collection task: gather 10 Hydro particles in 30 seconds to earn a rich chest. The next large area features more seaweed and a subsequent rich chest if needed.
After a cutscene, inspect the flooded settlement and obtain the Hydrocool. Then proceed to the “Desolate Place” where Rupture Hounds await. Release another stone melusine and defeat all enemies; mercenaries will join your side in the battle.
Act 3: Blue Fear of the Heart and Moon – Paintings. To dream. mechanical dog
When control transfers, attempt a teleport to the “Very Warm Place” and explore the underwater current. Turn right at the fork to reach a point between Elton Depression and Chemin de Lespore. This path leads to the final boss of the quest chain, Jacob. He is not a strong foe, and the mechanical dog assists in combat. Defeat him and all Hounds of the Rupture to unlock a new location.
Use prism and ore resonance
As before, charge active crystals to blast bricks. After completion, speak with Elinas and Mamer. The quest concludes with the achievement “Paintings. Dreams. Mechanical Dog” in Fontaine: Dance of the Wells of the White Dews I.
