“A walk in the garden and an interrupted dream” is a follow-up Mastery quest in Honkai: Star Rail. Completing it opens the Garden of Serenity region and unlocks the Fox Ghost Story event. This guide explains how to start and finish the quest, and how to navigate the illusory maze you might encounter along the way.

How to start the quest “A walk in the garden and an interrupted dream”

Not every traveler can jump straight into this Mastery follow-up. Access depends on finishing prior tasks and meeting a few conditions:

  1. Reach mastery level 34.
  2. Complete the Mastery Mission “End of the Burial, Beginning of the Path.”

When these criteria are met, Guinaifen will message the protagonist on the phone after updating the game to version 1.5. Players simply complete the dialogue and meet the girl in Aurumaton Alley. The quest can also be tracked in the quest log or on a dedicated event log page.

Talk to Guinaifen

Travel to Aurumaton Alley and watch several short videos. Then head to the new map, Garden of Serenity, with its entrance in the Exalted Sanctum. This grants access to the map for the first exploration, including scattered chests. It’s wise to postpone exploration of the area’s edges initially and follow the highlighted path for now.

On the way, players will engage multiple enemy groups. In the safe zone, a cutscene will unfold, followed by a sequence where Guinaifen and Hoho lead the way.

The marker marks a small area containing a mirror, which drops the heroine into a maze.

How to find a way out of the illusory labyrinth

Enter a looping location and search for the exit. Most doors here bring you back to the start. A small trick helps: return to the central column and locate the door in front of flat figures.

Enter it and you’ll return to the column, but this time walls beside one door display painted figures. Choose that route.

Progress leads you to an energy anchor. After descending the stairs, several adversaries appear. It’s best not to hesitate, as a starting character with strong destructive (physical) power becomes available to the player during this phase.

After the video, speak with the ghost and claim the marker. It grants the first hint, which can be opened with the key “R.” The hint suggests actions to open the next door. Inspect the room filled with multiple vases. Break all the red vases and leave the blue one untouched.

Following several conversations with Hoho and the ghosts yields a second clue. It outlines these steps:

    • Find the cheapest normal box in the chest-filled room.
    • Break all the blue vases and leave the red vase intact.

    Which mirrors to choose

Open the door and interact with a mirror to be taken to a floating island with more mirrors. To identify the correct one, ask a few questions first. A real mirror offers flattering remarks about the mistress, helping to avoid confusion.

Soon an island hosts three incorrect mirrors. Listen to each and pass through all of them. The hero returns and meets Hoho, who hints that behind the island a transparent path to a stone with another mirror has appeared. The same passage can be used later to reach a secret chest.

How to defeat the host and collect the fragments

From this point, Hoho becomes the main party member. Follow the sole path to the marker, defeating enemies along the way. The initial skirmishes are brief, but Cirrus will challenge the team later.

The first battle ends with the loss of some ghost minions; after the ensuing cutscene, a tougher battle begins. Hoho cannot be used, but the heroine restores health to all party members at the start of each new turn.

Defeat the adversary and, after the cutscene, return to Aurumaton Alley and speak with Susan. The player earns the achievement “Danger in My Heart” in the Path to the Stars track, along with other rewards such as Star Jade, Mastery Experience, and more.

    • Star jade (150)
    • Mastery Experience (1500)
    • Traveler’s Guide (15)
    • Purified ether (12)
    • Lost Crystal (12)
    • Dance fantasies (1)
    • Loans (150,000)

That covers the follow-up Mastery mission, “A Walk in the Garden and an Interrupted Dream,” in Honkai: Star Rail. The guide aims to save time, and readers are encouraged to share any problems or inaccuracies in the comments.
