What weapons are in Starfield: damage types and modifiers

First, let’s see what the weapons in Starfield are made of. The weapon type and damage for each weapon initially remain unchanged. But modifiers, prefixes and a hidden level are randomly generated.

Weapon types and damage, weapon parameters

Despite the presence of hundreds of planets, there are not that many weapons in the game. We counted 92 weapons of different types:

  • guns – 35 units;
  • Guns – 26 units;
  • heavy weapons – 13 units;
  • Hunting rifles – 9 units;
  • Hand weapon – 9 units.

In addition, each weapon has its own damage type. There are three in total:

  • Physical damage. It occurs most often and with all types of weapons;
  • Energy damage. Weapons with this type of damage are rarer. Lasers are less visible and more suitable for stealth play;
  • Electromagnetic (EM) damage. Can apply anesthetic effects.

Some modifiers placed on weapons can partially or completely change the damage type. Also, all suits have an indicator of resistance to any type of damage – it depends on how effectively your weapon will penetrate the armor of opponents.

Most dropped weapons are randomly generated. Various prefixes are added to it, the number of which depends on the rarity (usual, rare, epic, legendary), as well as modifiers that you can add to the weapon crafting table yourself.

There are also unique weapons in the game, but in fact these are just modified weapons with special names. Unique weapons can only be obtained in certain locations, quests or shops.

Each weapon has its own characteristics:

  • Injury;
  • Type of ammunition used;
  • store capacity;
  • rate of fire;
  • range;
  • Weight;
  • Value;
  • The number of installed changes.

Now let’s talk about modifiers and prefixes that can change your loop beyond recognition.

Modifiers

By making changes, we can both increase the above parameters and add new properties to the recordings. For example, installing the Hornet Nest mod greatly increases the damage from shots and causes an explosion at the point of impact.

The number and type of modifiers that can be installed depends on the specific weapon. On some weapons you can only put a sight and change the type of cartridges, while others can be changed beyond recognition, making a revolver look like a sniper rifle. Modifiers affect not only the characteristics, but also the appearance of the weapon.

Prefixes

Prefixes are unique attributes of weapons. They cannot be changed, they are written in advance or generated on random items, the rarity of which is higher than “grey” (often). The content of prefixes can be very different.

blank

For example, the prefix “Disassembler” (Disassembler) increases damage against all robots by 20%, and “Enlarged Shop” doubles the warehouse capacity. Rare, Epic, and Legendary weapons are respectively prefixed with 1/2/3.

Effect of character skills on damage

Technically, with the exception of modifiers, weapons can’t even be upgraded. Instead, a lot of attention is paid to the character’s skills.

In addition to banal perks that add 10% to laser weapon damage, some skills increase reload speed, damage from non-automatic weapons, damage from stealth, reduce scatter, and cause the target’s armor to be ignored.

So, a character’s lethality is determined by four factors:

  • Skills in which points are invested;
  • Weapon model (some types of weapons with higher attributes can only be found in high-level locations towards the end of the game);
  • Weapon prefixes;
  • installed modifiers.

Hidden weapon level in Starfield

At one point we came across a revolver with the prefix Advanced (“Advanced”). It had twice the base damage and was very different in power from other weapons in the game.

Based on player posts on Reddit, there is a hidden weapon level in Starfield. By entering higher level locations and battling enemies, you will receive upgraded versions of weapons with special attachments over time. Weapons can be divided into 5 levels:

  • Level 0 — [-] (no prefix)
  • Level 1 – [Calibrated] (“calibrated”)
  • Level 2 – [Refined] (“Refined”)
  • Level 3 – [Advanced] (“Advanced”)
  • Level 4 – [Superior] (“Excellent”)

However, here everything is decided arbitrarily. From a level 15 enemy, we got an ‘Advanced’ revolver, which has twice the base damage of a store revolver. At the same time, a level 58 enemy dropped a regular Grendel dealing 4 damage.

How to improve and customize weapons?

It is impossible to “sharpen” weapons, as was possible in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. The only thing you can do is install various modifiers on it, which will change the appearance of the gun and its characteristics.

High level mods can add new functions to weapons. For example, “Penetrating Ammunition” It allows you to pierce multiple enemies at once.

About where to find weapon workbenchwe have described below. Approach this station and press “E”. The workbench interface is divided into three sections. On the left you will find the description and characteristics of the selected weapon. Here the game shows how the installation of some module will affect the gun.

Possible changes are listed in the middle. Click on a category to access specific options. Below the weapon’s thumbnail, you’ll find a description of the upgrade and the attributes the mod will affect.

On the right side of the screen, you will find a list of required items and resources, as well as, in some situations, the skills required to install the change. Click “R”to track missing resources.

blank

A total of seven modifications can be installed on weapons. In most cases this is sufficient, but sometimes you will have to choose between a number of options.

According to our observations, when reinstalling modifications, the resources spent on the previous modification are not returned.

Where can I find the weapon workbench and other crafting stations?

To apply modifiers to weapons, you need a weapon workbench, as well as skill points in the skill “Weapons Technology”. There is a research station on the launch ship, but the weapons workbench can not be installed there immediately. Here are a few places you can find a weapon crafting bench:

  • Basement of the Constellation building. Here we are in the process of completing the main mission.
  • Gun shops. Some gun shops have the necessary workbenches.
  • Own outpost. After collecting a small amount of resources, you can establish your own outpost outside the settlements by opening the scanner (“F”) and pressing “R”, then creating a weapons workbench.
  • Own ship. The ability to install a workbench on your ship does not appear immediately, but after the appearance of new types of parts. We are interested in the Workshop Module, which has all the necessary crafting stations.
