How to turn a hero into an Oathbreaker Paladin
First you need to choose a paladin class and decide on its oath.
Remember that it is not only about bonuses, but also about certain restrictions on your actions. These oaths must be broken to become an oathbreaker. The conditions vary per specific case.
How to break the oath of retaliation
This oath assumes that you will punish criminals for their atrocities. Therefore, to break the taboo, you need to spare the bandits and allow the violation of law and morality. Vivid examples:
- Free the goblin Sazza from her cage in the Emerald Grove;
- Have Liam tortured in the Shattered Sanctuary;
- Tell Mintar where the Emerald Grove is;
- Have Acre kill the goblins in the cages.
How to break an oath of allegiance
According to this oath, you must protect the weak. Any deliberate damage to those who cannot fight back makes you an oathbreaker. Here’s what you can do for this:
- Martel Liam in the leprechaun camp;
- Have goblin kill Sazza while she is caged;
- Negotiate with Mintara so she doesn’t attack the Emerald Grove, then burn the goblin settlement;
- Kill an innocent unarmed man.
The last method is the easiest, but before taking someone’s life, make sure that you do not suffer serious consequences. For example, you can ruin relationships with an entire faction. Therefore, we recommend that you save and only then experiment.
How to Break the Oath of the Ancients
If you have chosen this path, you must protect the life and beauty of nature. Breaking such an oath is easy:
- Free Sazza at the Emerald Grove;
- Execute Medvesych and his cub;
- Bring Mairin’s consort back to life with the Bitter Parting Wand;
- Kill an innocent person.
If you did everything right, a cutscene with an oath breaker padadin will appear. You can talk to him during a long rest by the fire.
Oathbreaker Paladin Features
Once you break an oath, all associated bonuses disappear. However, you save your hero’s development progress and current level. There will also be new perks and abilities available only to perjurers.
The need to comply with any restrictions will disappear and therefore you can make all decisions, both cruel and merciful. We’ll cover more details on how to play as paladins and oathbreakers in a separate guide.
How to fix a broken oath
In the first part of the guide, we mentioned the Oathbreaker that will appear in your camp after breaking a taboo. If you want to go back to a paladin’s path, you have to talk to him. Say you are ready to take the oath again, pay him 1000 coins and choose the path. All bonuses will be returned, and restrictions will again be imposed on the hero in the form of the inadmissibility of killing innocents and protecting them from criminals.
