Theatre, humor, music, dance, magic, circus, and opera fill Teatro Principal as Alicante gears up for an ambitious slate in the coming weeks. The first quarter of the new season unveils a program built on quality, diversity, and heterogeneity, as outlined by the deputy director of the venue, Maria Dolores Padilla, who outlined the plan alongside Abel Guarinos, the managing director of IVC.
The theatre will feature a special role for drama, with Juana la Loca presented by El Trío Caracoles in collaboration with Argentine actor Nicolas Perez Costagoverning Pepe Cibrian. Critics have called the show a master class in theatre.
Also highlighted is Island of the Air, a production scheduled for October 21. The project features Alejandro Palomas’s writing and a cast including renowned actresses Nuria Espert and Victoria Peña in key roles.

humor marathon
The new season also introduces a mood cycle in October featuring Dont Touch Me, a lineup including Count, Think of Wilbur, Coach: Motivational, Pablo Chiapella, Zenóns Farm, and other lighthearted pieces that keep audiences smiling.
Premieres and own production
Teatro Principal emphasizes national premieres and in-house productions. The season blends dance with a half-hour show by Teatro Principal in collaboration with the Ayuntamiento de Alicante and OtraDanza. Directed and choreographed by Asun Noales, the ballet brings together Federica Fasano, Rosanna Freda, Salvador Rocher, Marta Santacatalina, Eila Valls, Aaron Vázquez, and Diana Huertas. The premiere is scheduled for September 24 in the Year of Sempere.
The theatre also debuts new projects in-house, including Intruderheat by Antonio Creams, winner of the Estruch Residence. The piece will be staged by Collectiu Intermitent and directed by Juan Pastor.
For Abel Guarinos, director of IVC, the audience remains central. The approach to programming is simple: it exists for the public, and the aim is to keep the community informed because the theatre belongs to them.
“Tales behind the scenes on stage” is another pioneering initiative for the season. Ten oral storytelling sessions are planned, with two in Valencian and seven told on stage in intimate settings. Training centers will host some sessions at 11am, while the general public can enjoy others at 20:30. The program aims to rescue legends and stories to broaden the theatre’s artistic disciplines, with storytelling specialists from across Spain leading the narration, as explained by Maria Dolores Padilla. The lineup includes Michèle Nguyen, Félix Albo, and Almudena Frances, with sessions scheduled for September 19, October 3, November 13, January 22, and January 29.
