In a second round of review, thirty-six proposals were considered and the jury unanimously chose works by Valencia artists Sara Aliana and Sara Marhuenda, along with a piece by George Island, an artist born in Huesca but based in Bilbao. The exhibition will be presented in the audio-visual room of Caja Blanca at Las Cigarreras, in the Negre space, through the 2022 and 2023 period. Two reserve projects were also selected: Try Animals and Grandmothers VR by Mayte Gomez Molina and LOOP by Tamara Garcia Iglesias. (attribution: Consorci de Museus)

The jury was chaired by the Director General of Culture and Heritage and included the President of the Scientific-Artistic Commission of the Consorci de Museus. Also serving were the consortium director from Alicante, José Luis Perez Pont; the deputy director of the CA2M Museum and adviser to the Community of Madrid on Plastic Arts, Tania Pardo; Alicia Escobio, a curator and coordinator of public programs at MACBA; and Leticia Cano, the manager of the Negre project. “The scroll is offered as an invitation to discover, through creative practice, the gap between the outward glow of technophilia and the darker dystopias of technophobia,” stated Alicia Escobio and Maite Muñoz at the opening of the call. Projects were evaluated on quality, consistency, feasibility, alignment with the curatorial lines set by the call, suitability to the exhibition space, innovation, and contribution to artistic creation. Particular emphasis was placed on studies exploring video possibilities within a contemporary context, with preference given to emerging artists or those whose careers would be strengthened by this opportunity. Pérez Pont, director of the consortium, highlighted the quality of the works presented in this second Scroll edition and its capacity to prompt reflection on technology-related issues in the audiovisual field. He underscored the commitment to supporting new talent and showcasing fresh artistic expressions that develop interactive narratives in their most experimental forms within a reference space such as Las Cigarreras. bread and circus
Jorge Isla from Huesca presents bread and circus, a thorough exploration of a mukbang performance that merges culinary ritual with a public spectacle of personal whereabouts. The project centers on an ASMR-inspired experience where the artist consumes large quantities of food while engaging with the audience to secure financial support. The work features a series of food-related stimuli designed to evoke empathy and pleasure, creating an impression of intimate interaction. A multisensory setup combining video, sound, and sculpture conveys a chaotic yet fragmented view, enriched with symbolic elements drawn from mukbang culture. (attribution: Consorci de Museus)
The immersive arrangement aims to translate culinary practice into an artful form that unsettles conventional spectatorship, inviting viewers to rethink appetite, desire, and the mechanisms of digital attention. (attribution: Consorci de Museus)
Is something happening to you?
Is something happening to you? by Sara Aliana and Sara Marhuenda addresses the challenge of turning artistic practice into a viable profession while keeping the creative spirit intact. It examines how digital life reshapes human needs and limits, using the fictional character María, who handles data in a banking app, and the projected audiovisual work shown on paper at Documenta Kassel. The piece explores the body’s vulnerabilities and how individuals adapt to the relentless pace of digital life, highlighting the pressures of constant speed and the inevitability of finitude.
