The Generalitat Valenciana presents the exhibition catalog Contemporary Art of the Generalitat Valenciana III, produced in 2021 and directed by the Consorci de Museus, with design by Martha Blackgo, earning a bronze medal in the ADG Laus Awards.

The Association of Art Directors and Graphic Designers, a private nonprofit body that unites professionals, studios, agencies, schools and companies in graphic design and visual communication, has awarded these honors since 1964 to recognize outstanding design.

This is not the Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana’s first Laus recognition. In 2009 the organization won bronze for an exhibition catalog. In 2010, projects Cross. mysticwith and Peregrinatio received praise, and in 2011 Maps of creativity earned bronze for 100% Valencia. All three works were produced by Canya Studio.

“At the Consorci de Museus and the Center del Carme, design is approached with care across all offerings, whether exhibitions or editorial pieces. In our publications, including the catalog that received the Laus recognition, information is presented clearly and with strong visual experience, turning the publication into an artistic object,” explains José Luis Pérez Pont, director of the Consorci de Museus and Center del Carme.

“Each year the ADG Laus Graphic Design and Visual Communication Awards celebrate top projects across more than 50 divisions in five categories: graphic design, digital, advertising, audiovisual and student work. Laus highlights design’s cultural and economic value to society and supports professionals. This year, over 1,200 projects were submitted and judged by a panel of respected industry experts. The results include 335 winners across two Grand Laus, 37 gold, 66 silver and 229 bronze,” report the organizers.

“Receiving a Laus Award brings pride and a boost to the workplace. In this edition, twelve studies highlight the Valencia region, signaling a thriving moment for the profession nearby. I would like to thank the Consorci de Museus and especially the CCCC for the opportunity to work on projects like this. Their commitment to culture, contemporary art and design is essential,” says Marta Negre, the catalog designer.

About the catalog

The Contemporary Art of the Generalitat Valenciana III catalog features a compact editorial layout spanning nearly 400 pages. It curates 22 contemporary artworks acquired by the Generalitat in 2019, presented in a visual, orderly fashion, and later showcased in venues across the three Valencian provinces through the Consorci de Museus in 2020.

The publication presents the artworks on display in the Contemporary Art of the Generalitat Valenciana III exhibition, combining multilingual texts with a rich collection of general and close-up photographs.

In 2017, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports launched a program to acquire artworks by Valencian creators, aiming to build a lasting legacy and support the revival of the contemporary art sector. Now in its fifth edition, the initiative has received 129 works to date.

Copies of the catalog are available from the Center del Carme Cultura Contemporània and from Llig bookstores, with online sales across Europe and Latin America.
