The Cocentaina and La Nucía concerts (starting at 20:00) will be free, while the ADDA concert at 19:00 supports a charitable cause for Proyecto Hombre, with a 10 Euro ticket fee. This event is sponsored by the Manuel Peláez Castillo Foundation and CajaMar Cajarural, with support from the Diputación de Alicante.

The program this year includes contributions from Tobias Gossmann and a team of esteemed professionals who prepared the concerts. Notable names include Kremena Gancheva, a member of the Spanish National Orchestra in the string section, and John Osorio, a professor at the Professional Music Conservatory of Alicante. Also featured is guitarist José Tomás for the winds.

program

Gossmann selected Symphony No. 101 by Joseph Haydn and Symphony No. 8 by Ludwig van Beethoven for this season’s repertoire. The OFUA director notes that both symphonies share a striking approach, particularly in their second movements. Haydn’s piece is affectionately nicknamed “The Clock” for its steady, almost ticking, Andante rhythm.

Beethoven’s second movement appears to mirror the invention of a metronome, a device devised by Johann Nepomuk Malzel as an evolution of Dietrich Nikolaus Winkel’s chronometer. Yet the most significant link between the two works lies in the humor and playful mastery that only composers of Haydn and Beethoven’s caliber could craft.

Gossmann adds that nearly every line carries a musical joke, quietly tucked beneath the surface. From playful accents and unexpected harmonies to light sarcasm in the phrasing, the performances tease the very act of musical form. In the end, Beethoven himself seems to revel in the ongoing chase for a perfect conclusion.
