The Original Version Cycle (VOS) returns next week at the Alicante City University Headquarters, presented in collaboration with UA Film and Audiovisual Studies. The program, focused on novels penned by women and adapted to film by male and female directors, carries the theme They Write and stands as a bold statement from pioneers in the field.

The film season commences on Tuesday, October 10, at the Headquarters facilities located at 40 Calle San Fernando in Alicante. A total of eight screenings run through December, every Tuesday at 18:30, with free admission subject to capacity. Each evening features a brief pre-program introduction followed by a post-screening discussion to engage audiences and scholars alike.

On the program are notable adaptations such as a 1945 film directed by René Clair, which brings to the screen a Christie mystery, and a 1944 adaptation directed by Otto Preminger based on Vera Caspary’s novel Laura. In addition, Elia Kazan’s 1945 adaptation of a renowned work and the 1962 film adaptation of Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, directed by Robert Mulligan, will be highlighted. The season continues with John Huston’s 1967 adaptation of Carson McCullers, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, as interpreted from its source material.

The cycle concludes in December with Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 adaptation of a popular novel by Susan E. Hinton, The Outsiders, followed by the closing showcase inspired by Ruth Rendell and directed by Claude Chabrol in 1995, La Ceremonie.
