Fundación Mediterráneo is set to host two selective tests in the year. Song of the Mines Festival will showcase a gala featuring the winners of the Murcian competition within the Flamenco Mediterráneo series.

These events represent the primary collaboration lines in the today-signed agreement between Fundación Mediterráneo and the United States Mining Foundation. The aim is to elevate flamenco culture and nurture emerging talent at La Unión.

Rosa Peñalver, Vice President of the Mediterranean Foundation, signed the document alongside the president of Cante de las Minas and the mayor of La Unión, Pedro López Milán. The director of Festival del Cante de las Minas was also present, along with Juan Carlos López and Anthony Rubira, the corporate relations manager for Fundación Mediterráneo.

Peñalver stated, “The Cante de las Minas Festival marks a pivotal day for the Fundación Mediterráneo, standing as one of Spain’s most culturally significant assets on a national and international scale.” She added that the agreement reinforces the Foundation’s commitment to young talent and flamenco culture, and helps position flamenco as a living cultural heritage with broad potential.

Pedro López, mayor of La Unión and head of Cante de las Minas, remarked, “This agreement keeps our festival vibrant in the regions of Murcia and Alicante. It confirms the plan to conduct selective tests and performances for the winners of our competitions, introducing these artists and confirming our mission to promote mining songs.”

The Young Artists Award winner from the 2022 International Cante de las Minas Festival will perform on the opening stage of the VI Mediterranean Flamenco Festival, held in autumn this year.

Two selection tests for the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas will take place at Fundación Mediterráneo’s headquarters in Alicante and Murcia. These artistic events at La Unión are widely recognized by audiences and critics as a flamenco benchmark, thanks to the prestige earned over the years.

Additionally, the 2023 Festival del Cante de las Minas winners will perform at a gala honoring the Flamenco Festival laureates, organized by Fundación Mediterráneo at its Alicante and Murcia headquarters. The awards—Mining Lamp, Bordón Minero Award, Desplante Award, and Filón Award—will be featured in a gala as part of the Mediterranean Flamenco Festival from 2023 onward.
