Mediterranean Flamenco Festival Starts Tonight in Alicante

A Alicante Mediterranean Flamenco Festival opens tonight at 20:30 with a performance by María Terremoto, a celebrated cantaora who won the Giraldillo Revelation prize at Seville Biennale in 2016. The show continues on Saturday, October 22 with young bailaor Eduardo Guerrero, giving audiences a strong start to this year’s program.

Following them, the lineup includes humorist Juan Luis Cano on November 5, singer Mayte Martín on November 12, and flamenco dancer Patricia Guerrero on November 25. All concerts take place at the Fundación Mediterráneo Alicante center, located at Avda. Doctor Gadea, 1. Tickets are available through the festival’s official channel and at the venue box office.

María Terremoto, recognized for her impact on modern flamenco, performs a show titled “Flamenco.” Her career traces back to Jerez de la Frontera, where she is part of a lineage that includes Fernando Terremoto and Terremoto de Jerez. In her twenties, she has become a prominent figure in today’s flamenco scene, masterfully navigating styles like soleá, bulería, fandango, and cantiñas with a contemporary edge.

Juan Luis Cano is a journalist, writer, and humorist.

On October 22, Bailaor Eduardo Guerrero, born in Cádiz, presents a show conceived as a lighthouse-inspired tour that visits select flamingo venues across Spain. The production emphasizes movement and costume color, offering a stream of flamenco styles and reinterpretations of classic songs. The staging is intentionally minimalist to highlight choreography.

Eduardo Guerrero recently earned the 2022 Lorca Flamenco Prize. His work is noted for avant-garde, boundary-pushing dance performed worldwide, marking a milestone in contemporary flamenco.

Mediterranean Flamenco Festival Artists in November

November 5 brings John Louis Cano, a journalist and humorist known for his Gomaespuma duo, who will perform a conference-style show titled “How I Fell in Love with Flamenco.” He will be accompanied by guitarist Salva del Real and cantaora Cristina Soler.

Mayte Martín is recognized as one of flamenco’s most esteemed cantaoras. On Saturday, November 12, her show “DÉJÀ VU” features an unpublished repertoire. Martín revisits and reshapes her own creations, presenting them with the maturity and emotion of a seasoned artist.

Mayte Martín is one of today’s most prestigious cantaoras.

The VI edition closes on Friday, November 25 with Patricia Guerrero, a Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer celebrated for her powerful presence. She received the National Dance Award in Interpretation in 2021 for her distinctive, modern approach to flamenco’s traditional roots and its ongoing evolution.

The Mediterranean Flamenco Festival celebrates its VI edition, running from October 14 to November 26, with performances at the Fundación Mediterráneo headquarters in Alicante and additional venues in Murcia. The festival aims to bring flamenco culture closer to communities and to emphasize flamenco as an intangible cultural heritage.

Tickets for the shows are available at the box office or through the official subscription options. A six-show pass, priced at 100 Euros, grants entry to the performances and access to related documentary and event programming.

Patricia Guerrero is a renowned Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer.

Mediterranean Flamenco Festival seeks to connect audiences with flamenco as a living art form and to highlight the cultural value of flamenco heritage in the Iberian Peninsula.
