Two weeks of visits brought producers and assistant directors from the United States and the United Kingdom together with service companies, all converging on Ciudad de la Luz film studios to explore the site’s capabilities for upcoming productions. The group also included a family delegation, underscoring how the industry partnership reaches beyond the core crew. The gathering reflected the consensus among leading agencies that the studios stand on par with Hollywood’s famed facilities, a view endorsed by the Society for Digital Transformation Projects (SPTD).
The tour was led by the SPTD general director and the Ciudad de la Luz team, with Fermin Crespo guiding the technical crew as the international delegation explored the site. From expansive sets and dressing rooms to other production zones, visitors received a hands-on overview of production support workshops and the water tank, among other amenities. The complex recently opened a new shooting stage, highlighted as a standout feature and already used in projects such as Sharks in Paris.
The professionals on the trip bring a track record of international hits and ongoing marquee projects. Their portfolios include titles like Lieutenant O’Neil and Patriots Game, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Asterix at the Olympic Games, The World Is Not Enough, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2, A Monster Calls, Now You See Me, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Jumanji: The Next Level, Damn Bastards, Sense8, Ninja Turtles, and Zoolander, among others. The reference points illustrate the high-caliber productions that trust these facilities for their technical and creative needs.
The participating companies span a wide spectrum of the audiovisual landscape. Annapurna, Movie Mad Entertainment, Ubisoft, Walden, Searchlight Pictures, Inner Child Productions, Revelations Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, HBO, Bardot Films, Peanuts, Independent, and PSN Spain (Palma Pictures) were represented in the visit, alongside a number of other industry players.
The visit formed part of a broader program that connects family interests with regional development, bringing together regions across the Valencian Community, including Valencia, Gandia, Benidorm, Elche and Alicante, with Ciudad de la Luz as the anchor. Production Service Network and Palma Pictures also participated, along with the Costablanca Film Commission, Valencia Film Office, and the film offices of Valencia, Peñíscola, Alicante, and Elche. The aim is to showcase the area as a natural film-friendly hub capable of supporting large scale productions.
Fermin Crespo emphasized that one of the crucial factors in attracting major shoots is for industry players to truly understand the facilities and the potential they offer. He noted that this first wave of visits from manufacturers and service companies had already taken place, signaling strong interest from major operators like Netflix, HBO, and Warner Bros. He added that Ciudad de la Luz has the capacity to transform the Valencian Community into a major production center, likening its potential to a city of light that can host diverse projects across the region.
The latest outreach also included a new line of site visits, drawing professionals from Scandinavia, the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. These visitors toured Santa Bárbara Castle as a principal setting and experienced the city’s other landmarks that could serve as backdrops for future shoots. The combination of historic locations and modern studio facilities positions the area as a versatile filming destination capable of accommodating a wide range of genres and production scales.
