Celebrating his anniversary, actor Leonid Yarmolnik announced in a new interview that he refused to receive the title of People’s Artist of Russia. This is what he’s talking about said In the ‘Once Upon a Time’ program on NTV.
On the anniversary in 1994, they wanted to award Yarmolnik the title of Honored Artist of Russia, and in 2004 – People’s Artist, but the actor believes that the value of this title has fallen.
“Today, this makes no sense. For me, people’s artists are Yuri Vasilyevich Yakovlev, Mikhail Aleksandrovich Ulyanov, Evgeny Aleksandrovich Evstigneev. And no matter how you look at it today, everyone is a people’s artist,” he said.
According to Yarmolnik, in the USSR the title of People’s Artist gave unconditional privileges, but now this is not the case.
“If you are a citizen, you will go to SV during the tour or fly first class, you will live in a “luxury” hotel and your name will be written in red letters on the poster. Today every artist has a rider. Whether public or not; “You are still agreeing on which car, hotel, meal, and whether fireworks will be set off in honor of your arrival in a foreign city,” says the artist.
He also noted that the example of Vladimir Vysotsky, who did not hold a government title during his life, was important to him.
