Demand for marinated meat in stores served by Russia’s First OFD (part of the VTB group) increased by 9% in January-April 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. At the same time, overall meat sales in the country have also fallen.

In April, customers in stores served by First OFD purchased nearly 1 million packages of products, spending almost 400 million rubles on barbecue meat. This number is 5% more than in April last year. The price of 1 kg of barbecue meat increased by 19% during the year and reached 416 rubles.

Russian demand for semi-finished meat products increased by 4% in April, with buyers purchasing more than 4.6 million products in this category, paying over 1 billion rubles. During the year, the average price increased by 10% to 224 rubles per 1 kg.

At the same time, according to statistics from Prodazhi.rf, meat and poultry purchases in general in Russia decreased by 8% in April compared to the same period last year. The average price of a pack of meat is 425 rubles, increasing by 16% during the year. During the year, the price of poultry meat packaging increased by more than a quarter, reaching 283 rubles.

“This year Lent before Easter started later than usual, so we are seeing a drop in demand in April. At the same time, sales of barbecue meat preparations and semi-finished meat products, which are often used for picnics, also increased, which was facilitated by sharp warming in some regions,” said analytical service Prodazhi.rf.

The demand for barbecue products consisting of grills, skewers, charcoal and ignition has exceeded 1.4 million units since the beginning of the year; This was an 8% increase compared to the same period last year. The volume of expenditure amounted to 310 million rubles. The average price in the category increased by only 3%, reaching 295 rubles. The most expensive item was barbecue grills, costing an average of 659 rubles per piece.
