There are enough winter tires piled up in Russian warehouses. They last for several seasons. We are talking about more than 33 million units. This is more than 8.25 million sets of tires.
Still, the cost of winter tires has been one and a half times higher than last year. This is due to the rise in raw material prices.
At the same time, the stock of tires in Russia is constantly being replenished. They are produced in Russian factories and imported from South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
In total, more than 80 million tires for a wide range of equipment are stored in warehouses in Russia. That is 30% more than was stored last fall, Kommersant writes, citing a study by Chestny Znak. Winter tires were found to be 43% more.
The share of foreign-made tires is a little more than a third – 35%. The remaining 65% of the tires are produced in Russia.
Kirill Volkov, head of the CRPT’s duty-free product groups division, warned that “buyers may encounter a lack of specific well-known brands at some points, but they can always find a worthy alternative, including in the segment of rare sizes for sports cars and tuned cars.” .”
Where did the excess tires in warehouses come from? As Avtostat expert Sergey Udalov explained, stocks of winter tires were formed on the basis that in 2022 1.6 million new cars will be sold in Russia, which will need winter tires this fall. But sold will approach 0.6 million units.
The tire shortage in Russia is therefore not imminent, but price increases, also seasonal, were unavoidable.
