The automated transmission, also known as AMT or the VAZ-2182 robotic transmission, will no longer appear on Lada cars. Lada.Online writes about this on the basis of the press service of AVTOVAZ. Thus, in the near future, all representatives of the model line of the domestic brand will be equipped with only a manual transmission.
Such a box was introduced to Priora already in 2014, then Kalina and Grant were equipped with it, and later the new generation of models Vesta and XRAY. But since 2019, AMT began to be gradually excluded from transmission options: first, no longer offering for Vesta, a year later – for XRAY (both models by then got a CVT mated to a Nissan engine), and then for most of Grants’ modifications, leaving the robot only on the Granta Cross version.
On older models, the robot “lived” for a short time. During the partnership with Renault-Nissan, AVTOVAZ had the opportunity to choose a transmission from a range of partners
In the summer of 2022, after production resumed in “anti-sanction” configurations, Grants had only their own manual transmission. By the way, on the basis of such a box, AMT was once created – the “mechanics” were supplemented by German ZF actuators and a control unit.
One of the possible reasons for AMT’s current refusal, the source indicates that it is not possible to supply ZF products. The second possible reason is the low popularity of such a box: it is said that Lada cars with a robot accounted for only 10% of sales.
On the other hand, for the Grant family, such a box was a “two-stage” alternative to the Japanese Jatco – all other things being equal, a car with a domestic robot will cost about 30 thousand rubles cheaper than with a Japanese automatic transmission .
- According to the estimates of the president of AVTOVAZ, at least a year and a half will pass before a new automatic transmission appears on Lada cars.
