KAMAZ is developing the new Moskvich platform at its R&D center in Skolkovo, Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov said in an interview with Kommersant.
This company has extensive experience in component localization and cooperation with global car manufacturers. Therefore, through joint efforts, it will be possible to create a modern Russian electric car by 2025, he is sure.
Deputy Mayor of Moscow Maxim Liksutov:
— This will be a new Russian platform for electric vehicles, built from Russian components.
It is understood that part of the components will probably be imported, this is normal, because even in China there is not a complete 100% localization.
But we want to strive for it.
About the current Moskvich
In the meantime, the factory will produce the current model, gradually localizing production. This includes stamping, welding, painting and the production of some other parts. Next year, the Alfa Automative Technologies factory in Moscow will also produce body panels.
Maxim Liksutov is confident that this crossover will be in great demand and the 50,000 Muscovites planned for production in 2023 can be easily achieved.
The main revenue will come from car sharing, private individuals and the business segment. For example, The ‘parkons’ of the data center with cameras are based on old Hyundai Solaris, which were long overdue for replacement. Many Moscow officials also consider the Moskvich crossover as a car for daily work trips.
