Toyota Motor Corporation has not officially supplied spare parts or assemblies to Russia, according to a statement issued by a company spokesperson via TASS. It is noted that parts not covered by sanctions can still be imported by dealers and used in vehicle repairs where permissible under the existing restrictions.
The company clarified that it did not continue a formal parts supply program to Russia. Instead, maintenance of Toyota vehicles in Russia is carried out, as far as possible, with parts that can be sourced domestically or through channels that do not violate sanctions, ensuring that repairs comply with applicable rules.
Russian media outlet Izvestia reported on January 20 that Toyota had resumed deliveries of non-sanctioned spare parts to Russia by late 2022. It was also reported that the Toyota Motor subsidiary operating in Russia, which acts as the official distributor for the Russian market, permitted its dealers to engage in parallel import of spare parts that fall under restrictions, including electronic components, subject to regulatory constraints.
The broader context involves a sequence of regulatory decisions that influence how foreign manufacturers interact with the Russian market. Notably, the Russian government has, at times, authorized state entities or large commercial groups to acquire or reorganize access to specific brands and business units, with implications for supply chains and aftersales service in the region.
