Great Wall Motor Debuts Tank 700 SUV in Russia and Updates on Related Models
The Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor plans to bring the new Tank 700 SUV to the Russian market, according to the brand’s official press service. The announcement outlines a vehicle that aims to blend rugged capability with modern comfort for a growing audience seeking premium features in a mid-size SUV segment.
Tank 700 is a frame-based SUV measuring 5090 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3000 mm, delivering a roomy interior for five occupants. With a ground clearance of 245 mm, the model is positioned as a capable option for varied road conditions. As the flagship model in Great Wall’s Tank lineup to date, it emphasizes a blend of style, space, and performance that appeals to families and professionals alike in the region.
For power and efficiency, the Tank 700 can be equipped with the Hi4 hybrid system, which pairs a 3.0-liter V6 engine with an electric motor and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Total output reaches 422 hp, while the electric range extends to roughly 95 kilometers. In combined driving, the vehicle consumes about 10.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, reflecting a balance between performance and efficiency for long drives and daily commuting.
Sales in Russia were anticipated to begin in October 2024, reflecting the brand’s commitment to expanding its presence in the local market. The Tank 700’s introduction aligns with a broader push by Chinese automakers to offer advanced, feature-rich models in North American-adjacent markets where demand for larger, well-equipped SUVs remains strong.
In China, the Tank 700 ships with a different power configuration: a 3.0-liter V6 producing 360 hp, paired with a 163-horsepower electric motor and a nine-speed automatic transmission. This setup highlights the model’s adaptable powertrain strategy, allowing regional variations to match local regulatory standards and consumer preferences while maintaining core performance and efficiency benchmarks.
Meanwhile, a separate development touched the Russian market as the fall 2024 timeline also saw UAZ initiating production of the Sollers ST6 pickups. The ST6 represents a cooperation-driven model blend in the region, offering a robust option in the pickup category that complements existing light-truck offerings and expands choices for commercial and personal use alike.
The market landscape for pickups and SUVs in Russia includes ongoing evaluations of several models, such as the JAC T6-derived solutions. The ST6 carries a gasoline engine around 176 hp, a six-speed manual transmission, and four-wheel drive, all built on a frame chassis. Its cargo area measures 1520x1520x470 mm with a load capacity of 820 kg, and the vehicle can reach a top speed of about 150 km/h. This profile demonstrates a preference for durable, versatile platforms that can handle mixed-use requirements from cargo to daily transport.
In broader consumer conversations, there is active discussion among Russian buyers about the Jeep Wrangler and its perceived drawbacks. The dialogue highlights consumer expectations for off-road capability, reliability, and long-term maintenance when comparing popular SUV options within the region.
