Great Wall’s Tank 500 SUV Arrives in Russia as a Compelling Alternative to the Land Cruiser
Great Wall Motors is certifying the Tank 500 SUV for the Russian market, presenting it as a strong alternative to the Japanese Toyota Land Cruiser. The model draws on a robust three-liter inline-six engine delivering 349 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm, paired with a well-appointed equipment list. In terms of styling, the Tank 500 also shares a similar rugged silhouette, reinforcing its SUV credibility.
The powertrain is joined by a nine-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels through a transfer case. The vehicle features three locking differentials at the center, front, and rear, underscoring its off-road capability. This combination makes the Tank 500 a genuine off-road performer, particularly when equipped with appropriate all-terrain tires.
According to China Automobiles, the Tank 500 is poised to receive Vehicle Type Approval in Russia, a key step before it can be formally sold in the market. Inside, the cabin signals a luxury orientation with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen. The climate ducts are finished with a metal surround, and a prominent analog clock adds a touch of classic elegance to the dashboard.
From a price perspective, the Tank 500 presents as a premium yet relatively attainable option by local standards. In China, the base price starts at about 335,000 yuan, which translates to roughly 3 million rubles. Factoring in import duties, shipping, and regional taxes, the total delivered price in Russia is expected to be higher, though it could still appeal to buyers seeking a luxurious, capable SUV in this segment.
