Geely has introduced a new crossover called Monjaro to the Russian market, a model that sits in size proximity to the Hyundai Santa Fe. The Geely novelty is launched in three configurations in Russia, with an initial price before discounts starting at 4.5 million rubles.

Initially known as the KX11 in China, the Monjaro was slated for a Russia debut early last year, but logistics delays shifted the start of sales. At present, Monjaro is available only with all-wheel drive and a single 2.0 turbo engine delivering 238 horsepower (350 Nm). The engine revs are broad, from 1.8k to 4.5k rpm, and it is paired with an eight-speed gearbox. All Monjaro trims come with six airbags. The basic equipment, however, lacks a suite of electronic safety assistants found in higher trims, such as lane-keeping, blind-spot monitoring, and reverse assist.

The Monjaro is not the only Geely renewal this year. A redesigned Geely Coolray follows, with a camouflage phase that had been documented in Russia and previously protected by a patent. Tests in Russia confirmed the updated design features a bold front fascia with a large mesh grille and a protective undercarriage wrap; inside, the analogue instrument cluster gave way to a 10-inch central display and a separate 12-inch screen for the multimedia system. The refreshed Coolray moves to a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 181 horsepower (290 Nm) and uses a seven-speed robotic transmission. The driver remains in control of the shifting.

In its earlier, pre-update form, the Coolray continued to be available in Russia with a 150-horsepower engine. Bi-monthly 2023 results show the Gely crossover ranking among Russia’s top three best-sellers with around 4.2 thousand units sold, according to data from the Association of European Businesses (AEB).

In Belarus, a Belgi plant has been producing a new Emgrand sedan aligned with the Russian Lada Vesta since late 2022. Price levels in rubles start at about 1.2 million. Reports suggest an updated Emgrand variant could also arrive in Russia within the year. In Belarus, the Emgrand 7 already offers a 1.5-liter engine paired with a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. An independent automotive consultant notes that introducing sedans to the Russian Geely lineup makes sense due to the limited supply in this segment. The consultant forecasts the Foreword model as a potential next step.

The Foreword sedan sits on the CMA platform developed with Swedish partner Volvo. It features a 2.0 turbo engine rated at 190 horsepower and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. With dimensions around 4785 mm in length, 1869 mm in width, and 1469 mm in height, it targets the business-class niche favored by taxi fleets. Deliveries to Russia have already reached private importers, with prices around 2.8 million rubles being quoted.

Industry observers expect Geely to continue introducing new models to Russia, while proceeding with caution given broader geopolitical tensions and potential sanctions. Reports indicate ongoing launches, including the Monjaro and a forthcoming crossover named Okavango in the near future. Analysts highlight that Geely is maintaining a steady presence in the Russian market to meet demand, despite the external pressures the brand faces.

The market also shows a broader trend: sedan demand remains weak, while several automakers are expanding into the SUV and crossover segment. Other brands such as Kaiyi, Moskvich, and Omoda, with Exeed possibly entering this space, are cited as competitors or contemporaries. The Geely Okavango crossover has already appeared with Belarusian dealers and is cautiously entering the Russian dealer network, though it has not yet been listed in the official Geely lineup in Russia. The Okavango is described as comparable in size to the Toyota Highlander, powered by a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing about 177 horsepower and paired with a seven-speed robot; listed prices in Russia begin around 3.8 million rubles.
