Easier and cheaper

From Ulyanovsk, dealers began receiving simplified configurations of the Base Icarus off-road family. The full lineup remains available for buyers who want the more feature-rich version. Even some variants with additional heavy equipment exist, though the price and risk factors are higher for those configurations.

As before, Patriot and Pickup variants will be offered in the same configurations. The only change is that the freight version adds about 25,000 rubles to the price. The same incentive to reduce equipment costs affected the Load configuration as well.

a. Driver’s airbag remains, paired with a modern steering wheel. The new wheel has been nicknamed Icarus and, curiously, its name was adopted for one of the configuration packages.

2. The prior gearbox from a Korean supplier has given way to a Chinese alternative from BAIC. Along with an inflatable airbag, this adjustment reduces the price by roughly 25,000 rubles. Market chatter suggests that some stock from the previous supplier is still being installed in certain units.

The new steering wheel, called Icarus, is a nod to a past era in design.

3. ABS remains included, but a deduction of 5,000 rubles is not offered as an option. It appears this setup will persist on most units. Industry experience indicates that swapping anti-lock brakes is more challenging than replacing airbags.

four. The engine line remains the ZMZ Pro with 150 horsepower and 235 Nm of torque. It now complies with Euro-2 emissions rather than Euro-5, yielding another reduction of about 20,000 rubles from the original Classic package.

In 2022 models, Patriot and Pickup trims shed chrome on the grille and the front decal turned black.

5. Under the hood a domestic Italma engine control unit replaces the previous German Bosch unit.

6. A Chinese brake booster takes the place of a Czech unit. The fuel dispenser is still operated with a lever. On the target economy versions for the UAZ Patriot, the control layout remains fairly similar.

From the outside, the engine and its control box show little change, but the ABS block sits unoccupied on the left wheel arch in some configurations.

Minus 50 thousand rubles

The Patriot Base Icarus now lists at 1,495,000 rubles instead of 1,545,000 rubles for the Patriot Classic.

For simplified Patriots and pickups, comfort options remain on offer. Air conditioning is priced at 40,000 rubles, a rear differential lock at 48,000 rubles, and a winch with steering rod protection at 71,500 rubles.

There is a package available for 250,000 rubles that includes heated front seats and a heated windshield, climate control, a media system with navigation and a rear-view camera, parking sensors, alloy wheels, and fog lamps.

Warnings persist about the loss of important safety features. Security systems have been trimmed back and while savings appear modest, the increased risk may be unacceptable for some buyers. Nevertheless, other configurations will not reappear in the near term.

Additionally, other UAZ models have been simplified. The models known as the loaves and the Hunters were downgraded to Euro-0 emissions class.

  • For better visibility, consider upgrading windshield drainage and wiper blades to hybrid, frameless, winter, or heated variants.
  • Driving directions can be accessed via messaging platforms such as Viber.
