Almaty Unveils New Auto Plant for Changan, Chery, and Haval
In the industrial zone of Almaty, construction on a new car factory has begun. The facility will cover a sprawling 100,000 square meters and will manufacture vehicles for three brands: Changan, Chery, and Haval. The project marks a significant expansion in the region’s automotive landscape, with a dedicated welding and assembly workshop planned for each brand to streamline production lines and quality control.
According to the factory’s press service, Chery will be the first brand to roll off the line. Production is scheduled to start in early 2025, with an official opening anticipated by the end of 2024, signaling a timely entry into the market. The layout is designed to support brand-specific workflows while maintaining shared infrastructure for efficiency and cost management.
Details about the models set to be produced have been confirmed. The plant will assemble the Chery Tiggo 2 PRO, Tiggo 4 PRO, and Tiggo 7 PRO, alongside the Haval Jolion, H6, and M6 Plus, as well as the Changan CS35, CS55, and CS75. All models are slated to launch in their current generation or refreshed versions, ensuring a modern product lineup from the outset.
Expected capacity reaches up to 90,000 vehicles per year, with the project targeting export markets for roughly 60 percent of production. While the list of export destinations is not fully disclosed, the strategy emphasizes international reach and competitiveness across North American and regional markets.
In related developments, a separate note highlights the ongoing logistics and supply chain considerations that accompany a new production hub. The plant’s setup aims to optimize component flow and minimize downtime, supporting steady output and the ability to meet both domestic demand and overseas orders as market conditions allow.
Additionally, a community-focused initiative connected to the project addresses essential needs in the region. A campaign coordinated with local public safety and aid organizations is mobilizing resources to support emergency services and humanitarian assistance. This effort includes securing tires for police vehicles and emergency equipment, aligning with broader public welfare goals while the factory scales its operations. Contributions can be made through the campaign’s designated collection page for tire procurement and related support. [Citation: Chinese cars]
