Chery has announced a bold move into a new era of hybrid and electric vehicles with the Fengyun family, introducing a large crossover that signals a refreshed design language and a more electrified lineup. The company also released the first official image of this model, providing a glimpse into the look and feel they intend for their future electrified SUVs. Reports from Automated Home expand on the press disclosures, highlighting the strategic ambition behind Fengyun as a global family in Chery’s evolving portfolio.
The Fengyun T11 is slated to feature the Kunpeng C-DM hybrid power system, which combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivering about 154 horsepower with an electric propulsion component. This setup is paired with a three-speed DHT transmission designed to optimize efficiency and smoothness in urban driving as well as highway cruising. Visually, the crossover diverges from traditional radiator grilles and embraces a more distinctive look: hidden door handles, blacked-out pillars, multi-spoke alloy wheels, LED light signatures, and a prominent, bright Fengyun emblem that communicates a modern, high-tech character from a distance.
Chery plans to unveil the Fengyun T11 later this year, with a production and market introduction window in the fourth quarter. Management has also signaled that by the end of 2024 the Fengyun family will expand to include six new models, underscoring the brand’s commitment to broadening its electrified and hybrid offerings across key global markets, including North America and Canada. The cadence suggests a staged approach, building a family of vehicles that share core propulsion architectures while varying in size and capability to meet different consumer needs and regional regulations.
Historically, the Fengyun name has been part of Chery’s lineup since 2001, when gasoline sedans carried the Fengyun badge. The automaker produced two generations under this name before concluding that phase of the brand in 2016. This legacy adds a layer of recognition to the new Fengyun strategy, as industry observers connect the earlier sedan lineage with the current push into electrified powertrains and crossovers that align with global demand for practical, efficient, and tech-forward family vehicles.
Industry commentators in Russia, and later elsewhere, have noted the Fengyun naming as one of the more recognizable branding elements in Chery’s catalog, a sentiment that the company now appears to leverage as it pivots toward a broader, more contemporary lineup. The move reflects a broader industry trend where legacy names are revived or reimagined to signal reliability while embracing cutting-edge technologies that attract environmentally conscious buyers who still require space, comfort, and versatility from their vehicles.
