AvtoVAZ Continues Assembly with Partial Parts Supply Pressure
The automotive industry continues to contend with shortages of spare parts and components. This constraint often leads to delays in conveyor lines and a temporary pause in certain production steps. AvtoVAZ has kept car assembly running despite gaps in some parts, illustrating how manufacturers adapt to disrupted supply chains while maintaining output levels.
In 2022 the company faced the same challenge. The practice of producing vehicles with missing components continued into 2023, according to Maxim Sokolov, president of AvtoVAZ. This approach helps avoid halting the entire production line and preserves employment, even as suppliers struggle to deliver all required parts on schedule.
The production schedule is designed to prevent line stoppages and minimize downtime for workers. When missing spare parts eventually arrive, vehicles are moved back into the assembly flow and completed. In markets with volatile supply chains, this strategy is viewed as essential not only to keep production going but also to quickly replenish dealer inventories with new cars.
After assembly is completed, the finished cars undergo testing and are then dispatched to dealers. This process ensures that, despite interruptions, vehicles reach the market in a timely manner and meet quality control standards before delivery to customers.
In 2022, AVTOVAZ reported an inventory of nearly 10,000 vehicles at different stages of incompleteness in warehouses. By year’s end, the company had secured the necessary spare parts, allowing those vehicles to be completed and released for sale. The situation highlights how a manufacturer can navigate supply disruptions by aligning production with part availability and demand, then finalizing builds as soon as components arrive.
Current reports indicate replenishment of understaffed vehicle lines is underway again, with supply chain updates noted by industry observers. The exact number of vehicles that have progressed to completion so far remains unlisted by company executives. Once the missing parts are delivered, they are installed on the vehicles and sent to dealers, keeping the distribution pipeline active even amid uncertainty.
