The Russian automaker told socialbites.ca that the presentation of the new Aurus Komendant model will take place this year. This marks the debut of Russia’s first domestic luxury SUV and the second model in the Aurus lineup following the Senat sedan, whose production version was unveiled in May 2021.

Aurus has already begun preparations for serial production of Komendant vehicles, signaling a clear commitment to bringing the SUV to market. The brand notes that the Aurus factory in the Republic of Tatarstan continues to operate normally and focus remains on preparing for the premiere where the general public will be invited. The company will announce the event details soon, according to statements made to socialbites.ca.

Earlier, in May, industry officials indicated that the car would be available before the end of summer, reinforcing expectations for a timely market entry.

Aurus Komendant is poised to be among the largest and heaviest premium SUVs in the lineup. Vehicle type approvals show it as slightly larger than the domestic Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and on par with the latest Cadillac Escalade in length, width, and height, signaling a substantial and commanding presence on the road.

The SUV body is prepared for armor installation, underscoring the model’s focus on high security and VIP protection. The Komendant’s length sits 25 cm shorter than the Senat, while its curb weight remains at 3235 kg, suggesting a consistent weight profile across the flagship family.

OTTS data indicate the Komendant will be powered by a NAMI-4123 engine developed in collaboration with Porsche Engineering. This hybrid powerplant mirrors the one used in the Senat sedans, featuring a 4.4-liter V8 with two turbochargers delivering around 598 hp. The hybrid option pairs that engine with a 62 hp electric motor, bundled with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive for enhanced performance and efficiency.

The Komendant equipment list includes rear folding tables, a refrigerator, illuminated vanity mirrors, various sockets and USB connectors, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, a surround view camera, and a remote keyless entry security system. Rear passengers can tailor the multimedia experience and operate window blinds with a touch. The second row offers two seats, both electrically adjustable and heated, while front airbags are joined by a knee airbag; optional curtain airbags for the first and second rows are available for an additional fee.

The steering column provides electric height and reach adjustment, heated rims, and the option to add gearshift paddles. An optional active safety suite assists the driver by maintaining lane position, adjusting speed with cruise control, applying braking in danger, recognizing pedestrians and traffic signs, and monitoring blind spots to reduce risk on the road.

Aurus asserts that parts supply for production remains robust. The company has already identified alternative suppliers for imports banned from Russia, and contracts are being finalized. Aurus notes ongoing efforts to increase the share of local suppliers to strengthen resilience and supply chains.

Prices and Expectations

In April, Manturov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, indicated that prices for Aurus cars would rise as production scales. The Senat starts at about 18 million rubles, while the initial price for the Komendant has not yet been fixed. The official line from Aurus emphasizes that pricing is determined on a per-car basis, depending on chosen options.

Estimates place the Komendant’s cost in the 32 to 35 million ruble range, according to independent automotive consultant Sergei Burgazliev. Analysts suggest that early orders will likely come from high-ranking state officials and entities connected to the public sector.

There is talk of a sister brand to broaden production toward more mass-market models and premium cars comparable to the Audi A6 and Toyota Camry in terms of features and build quality. This strategic move would raise production volumes, bolster supplier relationships, and help lower component costs, fueling growth of the main premium product line.

Industry observers anticipate demand for the Komendant to outpace early production, with some experts predicting strong uptake even before broader market introductions. Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of Za Rulem, believes the crossover could surpass the Senat in popularity, noting that it relies on proven technology shared with the platform and key components. Some Komendant buyers are expected to own other high-end models such as Mercedes-Maybach, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce, underscoring a niche appeal that blends prestige with state-linked associations. Kadakov adds that for certain buyers the car remains a symbol of status and influence, a point echoed by others following the market closely.
