Assembly of Aurus automobiles began in the United Arab Emirates, with production taking place at the new facility located in Abu Dhabi. Denis Manturov, the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, outlined the milestones and future plans related to this international collaboration. The information was transmitted by TASS, the Russian news agency.
The Aurus Senat sedan was the first model to be assembled in the UAE. Manturov indicated that the company intends to expand its lineup in the region, including the production of Komendant crossovers. He also noted plans to open a showroom in the UAE to facilitate the sale and customization of Aurus vehicles for local customers. This move is part of a broader strategy to establish and grow the Aurus brand presence in the Middle East, with gradual expansion expected as operations mature.
In Russia, production of the updated Aurus Senat luxury sedans was planned to resume in May 2024, according to Manturov. The Senat was initially introduced in the spring of 2021 and was placed into mass production at the Ford Sollers plant in Yelabuga. By the end of November 2022, production of the Aurus Komendant SUV had commenced at the same facility. The Komendant offers a choice of nine exterior color options and seven interior trim configurations. It is powered by a V8 engine delivering 598 horsepower, featuring a twin-turbocharged setup that emphasizes performance and luxury in one package.
The broader development of Aurus products in Russia and abroad reflects a strategic push to diversify manufacturing, expand luxury mobility offerings, and explore new markets. While the UAE facility demonstrates regional manufacturing capabilities, the ongoing Russian production lines underline the continuity of the Aurus program, including ongoing enhancements in engineering, performance, and customization options for discerning buyers. This dual-track approach supports brand resilience and aims to meet the expectations of high-end car enthusiasts in both domestic and international markets.
News and industry observers have occasionally speculated about potential corporate moves, including the possibility of Gazprom acquiring shares in Aurus. While such reports surface periodically, no formal announcement or confirmation has been issued, and any investment or stake change would follow standard due diligence and regulatory procedures. Until then, Aurus continues its collaboration strategy with regional partners and automotive ecosystems, focusing on product development, regional assembly capabilities, and enhanced customer experiences for a growing clientele.
