Aurus Announces Komendant Production at Yelabuga Plant
A sedan has been manufactured at the same facility since May 2021. The Yelabuga plant is now starting assembly of Aurus Komendant luxury SUVs, according to a statement released through the company’s Telegram channel:
“Series production of Russia’s first luxury SUV has begun at the Aurus plant in Tatarstan. This marks an historic milestone for the domestic automotive sector: less than eighteen months after the AURUS plant in Yelabuga opened, the brand’s second completely new model has entered full production.”
Aurus vehicles demonstrate a high level of localization, with roughly 70% of components produced in Russia by domestic manufacturers. Key elements include the powertrain, transmission, electronics, interior finishes, and exterior decor, all sourced from within the country.
In a detailed statement, the company described the Aurus phenomenon as the creation of an entirely Russian luxury car concept that has evolved into a strong industrial achievement. It encompasses homegrown engineering, cutting-edge technologies, and thousands of jobs across Aurus production facilities and their supplier network.
The Komendant is built on a single modular platform and shares many characteristics with the Senate. It utilizes the same V8 turbocharged engine equipped with mild-hybrid technology, delivering 598 horsepower and 880 Newton-meters of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission is employed, with suspension and tuning adapted to offer improved off-road capability while retaining luxury-road manners. The SUV is offered in nine exterior colors and seven interior design configurations. The Komendant’s price starts at 33.7 million rubles, reflecting its premium positioning in the market.
- The new Nissan model priced like a Vesta has appeared on the market—an older line that has not been supplied to Russia for more than eight years.
