It is stated that Intel’s investment in Italy is part of a large-scale US plan to strengthen its position in the semiconductor market. At the beginning of 2022, the US government announced its intention to allocate $88 billion for the development of the semiconductor industry in Europe.
According to Reuters sources, the deal between Intel and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi will be completed before the end of August. It is also stated that as part of the subsequent partnership between Intel and Italy, Rome will assume up to 40% of the cost of building the factory. At the same time, the aforementioned $5 billion is likely to increase as a result.
Intel reported that Italy’s northern regions, Piedmont and Veneto, are considered areas for infrastructure construction. However, the parties have not yet made a final decision.
