Apple has opened a new laboratory in Shenzhen to test the company’s devices and strengthen cooperation with local suppliers. The portal reports this MacRumors.
Object with an area of 20 thousand square meters. m will initially be Apple’s research and development center in the Greater Bay Area, which includes Hong Kong, Macau and nine cities in Guangdong province.
According to Chinese media, the laboratory will eventually hire more than a thousand local and foreign experts. Apple underlines its commitment to the Chinese market by calling the new facility its largest laboratory outside the United States.
Experts state that the opening of Apple’s laboratory in China is associated with increased competition in the country, especially from Huawei. In August, Huawei’s sales in China surpassed Apple’s for the first time in nearly four years, according to research firm CINNO.
Despite efforts to diversify its production chain outside of China, Apple continues to invest in research and development within the country. The company previously opened research centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Shenzhen, and the size of its R&D team in China has doubled in the past five years.
