Kaspersky Lab has detected more than 30 million attacks on Russian devices running the Android operating system over the eight months of 2024. This is almost 2.5 times more than in the same period in 2023. Referring to the words of Kaspersky GReAT head Igor Kuznetsov on this issue reports Vedomosti publication.
The number of users attacked was not disclosed, but other information security companies confirmed an increase in mobile attacks. So, according to Igor Bederov, head of T.Hunter’s investigation department, the increase in attacks may be due to the availability of information on creating malware and the growing popularity of mobile services that such software imitates.
According to Kuznetsov, Android device owners in Russia face a variety of cyber threats, including fraudulent apps, downloaders and banking Trojans. Spyware Trojans and pre-installed malware are also common.
An example of new mobile threats is the Necro Trojan, which infiltrated the Google Play app store and was distributed to third-party sites. Necro has infected several popular applications, including game mods, and may have infected several million users worldwide.
