Roscosmos reportedly supports the idea of creating two automatic Luna-27 stations TASS Scientific director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the first stage of the Russian Federation’s lunar program, academician Lev Zeleny.
“It (the Roscosmos state corporation – socialbites.ca), unfortunately, does not print money either, so there is no final solution,” the scientist said.
He added that if a device exists, it would make sense to send it to the Moon’s North Pole because few people have ever been there and it has not been studied.
Lev Zeleny recalled that in the USSR all devices were made in duplicate, which increased reliability. In the case of two Luna-27s, costs would increase by a third, because interplanetary stations could be tested with the same equipment.
Luna 27 is scheduled to launch in 2028-2029. It will study the composition of soil and water ice in the south polar region of the Moon using more than a dozen scientific instruments.
It is also planned to study the hydrogen content, chemical composition of the soil and other parameters of the cislunar environment. After completion of these missions, new projects will be considered within the framework of Russia’s scientific lunar program, including possible missions with lunar rovers.
