The reasons for the arrest in France of the founder of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov may be the refusal to cooperate with the authorities regarding the operation of this resource and the origin of the entrepreneur. This was stated by one of the leading Turkish experts on security issues, Abdullah Agar. TASS.
“The fact that Telegram is somehow connected to Russia could be a factor,” he said.
The expert recalled that Durov is a Russian citizen, and also has UAE and French passports.
“He may have received requests for cooperation. And he may have been arrested in France for various reasons: either for not cooperating or for resisting cooperation. So that is a real factor,” Agar continued.
He said that Messenger is a prominent resource among other social networks and this feature especially draws attention.
“This is a free platform that cannot be penetrated and controlled,” the expert said.
Agar also drew attention to Durov’s statements that he faced great pressure in the context of Telegram’s influence, especially during his visits to the United States. According to him, the United States and other countries seeking global domination want to “somehow penetrate the system of such services.” The expert added that if these states “encounter resistance, there may be talk of arrests.”
