Dodo Pizza’s legal team has explained why a lawsuit was filed against the owner of the username dodopizza and the Telegram platform. The company claims that Telegram support did not respond to several requests, leaving the brand with no option but to seek judicial protection to safeguard its rights. This stance was shared on the Telegram channel operated by Dodo Brands lawyers and reported to stakeholders.

The lawyers noted that Telegram does have support channels, but reiterate that every appeal they submitted received no reply. With no resolution through ordinary channels, the case moved to the courts as the available remedy to protect the brand and its intellectual property rights.

Beyond seeking to stop the disputed channel, the company pointed out that it could have chosen an alternate channel name. Instead, it chose to pursue action to defend its rights and its reputation. The legal team stressed that a registered trademark enjoys protection across many jurisdictions and highlighted that safeguarding intellectual property constitutes a fundamental part of the company’s business approach.

Legal actions were initiated in Russian arbitration courts to block the channels believed to infringe on copyright. The primary defendant is the channel owner, but anonymity complicates the proceedings. Telegram may face liability as an information broker if it does not disclose information about the channel’s proprietor.

Specifically, the filings are part of a broader strategy to address the issue in Russia, reflecting the company’s view that the brand and its channel are primarily targeted at Russian users.

In 2024, the organization responsible for franchising under the Dodo name pursued action against Telegram FZ LLC in the Komi Republic Arbitration Court. The case concerns the nickname dodopizza, which had been acquired for 1865 tons on a digital marketplace. The channel owner, linked to the brand, reportedly tried to monetize the property for a substantial sum, with figures reaching about 2 million dollars in value at the time. These details illustrate the tension between brand protection and digital asset ownership on global platforms.

Earlier reporting also noted the emergence of new features and hashtags on Telegram, underscoring the evolving landscape of social platforms and brand presence. The situation highlights how digital identity and intellectual property interact in a fast changing online environment.
