In July 2022, a court in Alicante convicted a Colombian national woman and a Spanish man for forcing 24-hour prostitution from Latin American women in residences located in Benidorm and La Cala de La Vila Joiosa. The verdict found that the accused exploited the victims while taking advantage of their vulnerable state, capturing a large share of the earnings generated through prostitution and exercising absolute control over the victims. Five protected witnesses testified, describing relentless coercion and near-constant supervision that left the victims with little respite.
