With information Apple has no plans to open access to its AI-based services to users in Europe, Bloomberg reports. At least not this year. This is due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in force in the European Union with its strict restrictions.
Products that will no longer be available include Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring and Shared Gaming Screen Sharing, a suite of AI-powered features for iPhone and Mac. The last two functions allow you to transfer the contents of smartphone screens to a Mac and control the other user’s screen accordingly.
Apple representatives expressed concern that DMA requirements could compromise the integrity of their products and pose risks to user privacy and security of their data.
The DMA came into force in the EU in March this year. It covers services from six major companies, including Apple, Alphabet, Amazon and more. Platforms must share data with competitors, provide users with access to the data they produce, and provide verification tools to advertising partners. The penalty for non-compliance can reach 10% of the company’s global turnover.
As Bloomberg notes, Apple has faced similar problems when introducing AI technologies in other regions. For example, the ChatGPT chatbot is not available in China and the company needs to collaborate with another developer that offers similar services.
Previously Apple to create New partner in the field of artificial intelligence.
