Russian organizations classified as critical information infrastructure (CII) subjects increased their investments in cyber defense equipment by 92% in the first quarter of 2024. socialbites.ca learned about this from a report by the Russian developer of information security tools Security Code. The company’s commercial director, Fedor Dbar, explained that the increase in activity is associated with the upcoming transition to Russian information security and IT products, created by the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Dbar, most companies plan to complete the implementation of domestic information security tools by the end of the first half of 2024 to gain time to eliminate possible technical and organizational problems. However, some companies are just starting active purchases due to the later start of the import substitution process.
According to the Security Code study, the greatest interest in Russian cybersecurity tools is shown by operators and owners of government information systems, which account for approximately 50% of all purchases of cybersecurity products. Leaders in investments in information security products include IT and telecommunications, government agencies, state companies and the military-industrial complex, as well as scientific and technical organizations.
The most popular information security segment for investment continues to be network security, which is associated with the nationwide trend towards digitalization of the economy, the increase in commercial and government online services, as well as high levels of cyber attacks. Often, CII entities purchase next-generation firewalls (NGFW), remote access firewalls (VPN), and trusted boot systems to protect endpoints.
