Just before reporting impressive earnings for the first quarter of 2024, Google laid off at least 200 programmers and engineers from its “core” team. Instead, the IT giant began hiring cheap specialists from India and Mexico, which attracted the attention of journalists. First research on this topic carried out CNBC broadcast.
According to Google’s website, the main department is responsible for creating the technical basis for the company’s flagship products and the security of users’ information on the Internet. It consists of teams of engineers, technical product infrastructure, and other developers who work with Python.
Documents show that at least 50 of those laid off were engineers working in the company’s Sunnyvale, Calif., offices. Many will be replaced by experts from Mexico and India, according to internal documents reviewed by CNBC journalists.
It is assumed that this change is due to Google’s desire to maintain high financial efficiency, which will certainly please investors. The IT giant reported 15 percent revenue growth for the first quarter of 2024 in its latest report on April 25. Google also announced its first dividend and $70 billion share buyback.
Previously Apple accepted $20 billion from Google in exchange for a small concession.
