A research team from Aberystwyth University (UK) is developing a “healthier version” of white bread enriched with grains, legumes, calcium, iron and vitamins. This change will allow you to consume bread without harming your health and figure. In this respect reports Daily Mail edition.
According to researchers, white bread, popular among a large number of people, cannot be called a “harmful” product. However, it contains a lot of carbohydrates, the abuse of which can lead to excess weight, fluctuations in blood sugar levels, obesity and diabetes. Those who support a healthy lifestyle are advised to eat whole grain bread, but this may not be liked by people as it differs from the usual color, consistency and taste.
To create a healthier version of traditional white bread, scientists will prepare versions of the product with the addition of peas, beans, chickpeas, quinoa and grains. Wheat flour will also be enriched with calcium, iron, thiamine (vitamin B1) and niacin (vitamin B3).
Researchers suggest that such changes to the recipe will not affect the appealing texture and taste of white bread, but will increase its healthfulness. The addition of legumes and vitamins will enrich the bread with protein and fiber, healthy dietary fiber. Its use will potentially improve the nutritional quality of the population.
It was noted that the final formulation of the new product is still under development.
