Authoritative insider and journalist Tom Henderson on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter) shared A vision of what the gaming industry will look like in the future with the arrival of next-generation consoles.
His prediction is that publishers will stop releasing games on physical media and refocus on releasing projects in digital format through online stores and subscriptions. At the same time, the cost of games will increase to $100, which will become the industry standard. Currently major AAA books sell for $70.
Additionally, publishers will increasingly enter into long-term exclusivity deals for games and content on certain platforms in order to attract more buyers. They will also cut costs and focus on developing established and popular series; new and experimental projects will become rare.
Finally, PlayStation and Xbox will also launch their own portable consoles. Probably with the aim of gaining a share of the mobile gaming market and competing with Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck and smartphones.
It’s worth noting that this is not insider information, just Henderson’s personal opinion. The release date of the next generation consoles is unknown, as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are still relevant.
Previously Insider said About the price and upcoming release of PS5 Pro.
