WhatsApp warned users about the new restriction 17:46

Developers of WhatsApp messenger began to warn users that unlimited access to Google Drive storage for creating backup copies of chats on Android will soon be disabled. The portal reports this WABetaInfo.

WhatsApp plans to restrict Android users recognized Thanks to WABetaInfo discovering relevant information in WhatsApp beta version number in November. Now users receive notifications: “In a few months, your Google storage will be used for backup.”

Thus, a backup of all messages and media files in WhatsApp users’ chats will be stored in Google Drive. Earlier backups were also stored in Google cloud but now the backup will be limited to the user’s available storage. The free version of Drive only has 15GB of available space, and that space is also reserved for other Google services, including Docs, Slides, Sheets, and more.

If the user does not have enough free disk space, there is a possibility that correspondence will be lost when changing the device or re-authorizing WhatsApp.

iPhone uses iCloud cloud storage to store backups. Only 5 GB is available in the free version of Apple’s cloud.
