Somnologists have found a way to overcome drowsiness without harm to health 17:41

Swedish sleep scientists from the Stress Research Institute and Department of Psychology at Stockholm University have discovered that setting your alarm clock and delaying waking up in the morning may be beneficial to your health. The study was published in the scientific journal magazine Journal of Sleep Research (JSR).

Previous research has shown that more than half of people do not wake up after the first alarm, allowing themselves to fall asleep for a while. Experts are trying to study the effect of this practice on the body and cause problems such as decreased thinking ability, lack of sleep, mood disorders, etc. He decided to find out if there were any negative consequences associated with .

Scientists conducted two experiments to observe people’s condition; Some of these experiments stood up immediately after the first alarm went off, while others set the alarm for a later time. Somnologists paid particular attention to levels of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands upon awakening and associated with stress.

The first test involved an online survey that asked participants what time they usually go to bed, how often they snooze the alarm clock, and why they don’t get up immediately after waking up.

In the second test, a group of 31 volunteers spent three nights in the laboratory. Subjects had to get up immediately after waking up and delay the alarm time to take a nap for up to 30 minutes after the initial alarm.

To measure cortisol levels, the researchers collected saliva samples from the participants and administered a battery of cognitive tests.

The results showed that sleep characteristics were similar in both rapid-wake and delayed-wake conditions. In all cases, people felt sleepy immediately after waking up. But trials showed that napping within half an hour of waking improved participants’ thinking abilities and did not affect their cortisol levels. It also helps you be a little smarter in the morning.

Previous scientists I learned57% of adults do not get up immediately after the first alarm goes off.
