Apple component supplier LG Innotek has begun developing iPhone displays with the UPC1 in-display camera module. This was reported in Korean publication TheElec.
It is stated that the new module will allow Apple to create an iPhone with a screen without any holes or cuts. According to insider information, the new UPC front camera has some limitations compared to traditional cameras; It captures less light, especially since it passes through the screen layer. In response to this problem, LG Innotek is developing special lenses that will increase the intensity of light reaching the camera sensor1.
However, this innovation will not appear in the iPhone 16 series or other future models that will be released in 2024. It is assumed that Apple will introduce the iPhone 17 Pro with round holes for the front camera and in-screen Face ID in 2025 for the first time.
Thus, a full-fledged iPhone without any notch will not appear earlier than the iPhone 18, which may be released in 2026.
Previously recognizedThat Apple will stop repairing popular devices.
