The introduction of two-factor authentication in Civil Services is a good solution. This was stated by Artem Geller, managing partner of Smena (AIC Group).
“Right now it’s time for us to deploy two-factor authentication on a resource like Gosuslugi, which is so conservative in terms of storing and securing data,” he said.
According to him, this is due to the fact that similar authorization methods in a large number of completely different services have already become part of the daily use of users.
“This is nothing new to anyone. Everyone has understood it and learned to use it. Now you can enter it in the “Government Services”. There may be a slight delay, but still this way itself is much more reliable than the usual authorization with just a username and password” said.
Geller explained that this type of authorization also binds one more feature (for example, a mobile phone with an SMS response or some other additional authentication method).
“This significantly increases the security of the resource. Accordingly, the security of your personal data, your transactions, what and how you use the State Services resource and the information you share with the government through this resource increases.” he emphasized.
He stated that this has become mainstream in the industry and now Gosuslugi is following suit.
“Government services” and state resources in general should be available not only to tech enthusiasts or young people, but to absolutely all segments of the population, even those who are not computer-savvy. Introducing such complex interfaces or authorization methods is not easy for these types of resources,” Geller said.
The expert also noted that two-factor authentication is much more reliable than traditional authorization methods. However, he explained that this is not a definitive solution to the problem.
“With the introduction of this feature, the number of unauthorized logins and associated disturbing situations is rapidly decreasing. In the future, of course, there will be a way to perform double authorization using Face ID. For example, it is already used on mobile phones,” he concluded.
Previously Kommersant newspaper reportedHe reported that starting from October 1, additional confirmation for logging into the “Government Services” became mandatory for new users of the portal and those who restored the account.
