According to the source, the system looks more refined: application icons have been updated, and device controls based on Aurora 5.0 have become clearer and more familiar to iOS and Android users. The Hi-Tech Mail.Ru correspondent also noted the “old-fashioned” font and icons in the Settings application.
The main innovation in the new Aurora is simplified gesture navigation, similar to the control system in iPadOS; You can switch between apps and turn on multitasking with a single swipe.
The Open Mobile Platform representative responsible for Aurora’s development admitted that the company deliberately spied on Apple in the process of creating a navigation system that used gestures, as users wanted simple and intuitive controls.
Hi-Tech Mail.ru journalist noted that the KVADRA_T tablet based on Aurora 5.0 works quickly. All animations in the system are rendered smoothly, without stuttering, and the response to clicks has become noticeably better compared to the previous version. It is not yet known how well the system will perform under load and after some time of use.
The release of the Aurora 5.0 operating system is planned for January 2024.
