Scientists from Khakass State University named after NF Katanov (KhSU) have developed a new approach to the creation of LEDs that makes them brighter and more durable. In this respect informs RIA News.
The new approach of KSU experts is to add silver nanoparticles with a special geometry to LEDs. The scientists explained that they activate the so-called effect of surface plasmon resonance. The essence of the effect is that it strengthens electromagnetic radiation at the boundary between silver and dielectric. Thus, light entering the junction of noble metal particles with a dielectric is reflected with a much greater intensity.
“Our work has shown that surface plasmon resonance not only significantly increases the lifetime of an LED, but also greatly increases the luminous efficiency,” said Professor Yury Gafner, head of KSU’s Nanophysics laboratory.
RIA Novosti claims that in the long run, a new type of LED will make it possible to create brighter and more durable displays.
Currently, the data obtained by KSU specialists is currently undergoing experimental verification, as well as being applied in the technological process at a number of Russian universities, including the National Research University “MIET”.
