Researchers from the University of California have developed a new technology that allows you to more accurately capture signals from outer space. The results of the work of scientists are presented in the article, published in the Astrophysical Journal.
“We explored the possibility of searching for techno-signatures by determining the presence and nature of the intensity of the ‘glows’ that occur in the turbulent ionized plasma of the interstellar medium,” the authors write.
“Vibration” is the luminescence during the interaction of the medium and ionizing radiation. It is the technology of measuring this indicator that makes it possible to more accurately identify the resource with minimal effect of anthropogenic interference on the receiver.
Scientists believe that aliens can use the same signals as humans. But the signals emitted by man-made devices can make extraterrestrial devices difficult to analyze. Therefore, the authors of the development decided to improve existing signal search methods and make them resistant to anthropogenic radio frequency interference.
“Based on the relative ease with which our own civilization generates continuous hertz-width signals, we would expect extraterrestrial civilizations to emit similar narrowband signals,” the authors wrote.
